Hello friends, it has been a truly amazing week around here! Sometimes your life gets shaken up in such a way that you just have to sit down and hold on… I found out on Tuesday last week that I had been accepted into a Diploma of Costume for Performance – on the day that the course started! I applied for the course after the due date, so I thought I wouldn’t get in, but someone must have dropped out at the last minute because now I am a full-time student, sewing and pattern drafting and thinking about costumes from 9am to 4pm every day.
What do I do about my job? How to pay my rent? Will I still feel like sewing at home after a long day at school? It’s been such a culture shock going from a part-time, easy job to full-time study again. I am constantly tired and hungry from thinking so much. But all of a sudden I am doing something I truly love, and it’s fantastic! So I’m sorry for the lull in blogging, but Real Life has taken over for just a little bit. I did finish a bit of knitting that I have been excited about, the picture frame from Yarn Bombing that I have been coveting. I love the whole Victoriana/curlicue design thing that is going around at the moment and this is going to hang over my bed in pride of place.
Isn’t it great? Cables, mitred corners and a whole lot of awesome. Not sure about what picture to fill it with yet, though…
Soon we will be back to the sewing and the pretty clothes – I have a lovely mustard 30’s style dress I finished recently just waiting to be photographed. In the meantime – a whole new adventure! I can’t wait to dive in!

Boy, does that frame look complicated! It’s good to hear that you got accepted into a course you’re really interested in – hopefully it won’t ruin your desire for recreational sewing (as it did for my architect friend’s love of drawing). And yay, mustard! I love that colour in clothing, it’s so warm and rich.
Congrats! That is such exciting news! I do hope you will share all the fun stuff you get to do as part of your diploma! I would love to hear it!

Congrats again! It’s a very fun course, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! It will take a little getting used to balancing study and work (Perhaps look into youth allowance/austudy?), but once you’ve got it figured, you’ll be right. Tuesday will be the most full on day, I quite often came straight home to nap after pattern drafting! People often worried that I would end up doing less of my own sewing because I’d be sick of it after studying all day. But honestly, it’s increased my love of sewing! I find I’m more inspired to make my own clothes and costumes. Hopefully you’ll find the same! I probably won’t see you til next week though!

Centrelink is a pain to deal with, but it’s a necessary evil. If you have a healthcare card you can also apply for TEFA which helps pay your fees.
I can’t wait to meet you too! I’ll probably be popping in tomorrow to talk to Jenny and Phyllis about my project work, but at the moment you won’t see me much due to sickness 😦

I’ve been knitting since I was about 4 – my mum is German so I do knit Continental style, not English, but I’m sure you have a mix of both styles at Brown Owls! When are your sessions?? 🙂
